Rear Conservatory – the most popular extension has been the addition of a conservatory to the rear; much as this has become, since the 1990s, the most popular addition to up-market housing across the UK. In this case, though, this has taken the form of infilling the garden side of the ‘H’. As such, it still brings the garden inside so that it is ‘usable’ in all weathers, but has only a minimal impact on the gardenscape. Indeed, the only price to be paid has been, as is always the case with such conservatories, some diminution of the light reaching the living room, though – with extensive artificial lighting now in use - this does not seem to pose many problems.

Occasionally the L interpenetration on the 4-bedroom version has been filled in as an extra bedroom.
