Pitched Roof

Pitched Roofs – as a relatively recent development, and following the example of some more adventurous owners, just over a third of the owners have now replaced their bungalows' flat roofs with pitched roofs; using identical brown concrete pantiles, which unify the roofscape and work well with the white/grey walls. Those who have made this investment, of up to £30,000 where the roof area may be as much as 3,000 sq ft, have calculated that the cost of replacing the flat roof covering every 12-20 years justifies the cost of this investment; though the ‘security of not being subjected to sudden leaks may have been the more important psychological benefit!

Although usually the work of an architectural technician - often Ron Pummell - rather than an architect, these new roofs blend surprisingly well with the basic design and, due to the inherently complex ground plan set by the original architects which shaped all the developments, in general they offer a pleasingly diverse picture of different roof patterns; though, as can be seen above, there is literally a price to pay for this.
