   Conversion of Garage/Carport – in the case of the southernmost bungalows, those with the larger front gardens to compensate for the lack of immediate rear access to the canal-side open space, the opportunity has almost universally been taken  to convert the garage – and sometimes the carport as well – to an additional bedroom(s). Even though these demand windows on the frontage, the large gardens and the screening hedges, which have now become mature, still protect the inhabitants privacy and minimize any impact on shared frontages.
 

   Where the carport has been converted the front door has typically been moved to the front court.
